Forest's Edge
The forest ends suddenly and grassland takes over. In the forest, I notice coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis) beneath spreading valley oaks (Quercus lobata) draped in lace lichen (Ramalina menziesii); in the grassland bordering Road C, there are annual European grasses and little yellow and white flowers, including weedy hawksbeard (Crepis vesicaria ssp. taraxacifolia). The grass is just turning "golden" for the California summer. There are other plants: can you identify them? 11 am, on my way home for Helen's birthday celebration.
