Searsville Lake at Dawn (2)
From the road high above the lake. Dawn sunlight sweeps down from Skyline, and strikes the willows and the rest of the lowlands, in the hollow which held the rest of the original Searsville Lake. Mist still drifts over the hollow, in the valley of the San Andreas Fault, and in the sky before Skyline. Water plants push farther and farther into the lake. A quiet, breezeless morning. In the foreground chaparral, from the left, I think I can pick out yerba santa (Eriodictyon californicum), chamise (Adenosoma fasciculatum), blossoming buckbrush (Ceanothus cuneatus var. cuneatus), and fragrant California sagebrush (Artemesia californica). Can you? Road E, 7:57 am.
