Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) in Flight (3)

Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) in Flight (3)

Sunlight illuminates its underside on a turn, high above. 10:59:17 am. Here is the entry from my journal just now: A lone kite perches at the top of a lone tree bordering the chaparral, overlooking the grasslands. A little preening, adjusting its feathers. Then resting, looking, alert. [A tiny bug walks across my journal... ] Now gone! I didn't see it fly. [I only noticed the kite eating the vole (?) when I looked at my photos later.] But just above us! Two red-tailed hawks, circling slowly, gradually gaining altitude. Circling in lazy loops, around a common center. Securely sharing their morning flight together, confident, sure of themselves and their partner, at home. Happy.
