Signed up for leading high-school AP students on successive days, I visit the Preserve before and afterwards. Here are the highlights, out of the Main Gate, around Searsville Lake:
A. Moody, overcast views of Searsville Lake from the dam. The sun peeks out.
B. A great egret hunts in the grasslands near the Sun Center -- both days. Patient stalking. I never saw the reward. I indulge in some semi-time-lapse sequences of the egret's slow search for prey, moving a single body part at a time, carefully and smoothly. And we see a sudden takeoff and flight. The onset of steady rain does not seem to change the egret's behavior -- though it does pause to shake off the water.
C. On the drive in, a brace of bucks, melting into the woods. Later, long spells communing with curious bucks.
There is more. I even captured a few bird shots during the tours.
