Valley Oak with Enmeshed Toyon; Serpentine Rocks; Oaks on Ridge
A favorite vista of mine, captured with my favorite wide-angle lens in nice light, with clouds in the blue sky. An old valley oak (Quercus lobata) sits at the edge of the forest, entangled with a berry-covered toyon bush (Heteromeles arbutifolia). Serpentine rocks show multicolored lichen. On the distant ridge, pale blue oaks (Q. douglasii) on the left give way to vigorous coast live oaks (Q. agrifolia) on the right. Birding Transect Trail, 9:39 am.
