Phainopepla Tree at Sunrise

Phainopepla Tree at Sunrise

The setting moon is caught in the branches of this old valley oak (Quercus lobata) on a ridgetop along Road F. Mistletoe forms the bulk of the growth now; the oak itself has almost stopped putting out leaves. The tree is in full sunlight; the line of sunrise creeps toward the photographer, standing in shadow. Windy Hill is on the horizon to the left. 7:11:46 am.
