Visitors' Oak in Springtime

Visitors' Oak in Springtime

Lace lichen (Ramalina menziesii) hangs from the lone valley oak (Quercus lobata) near the Visitors’ Parking Lot at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. It is springtime, and the grass is green; looking closer, we might just see the new leaves sprouting from the tree. But no mistletoe. Behind the oak we glimpse the black plastic guarding the grasslands experiment being pursued by Erin Mordecai and her collaborators. On the horizon is Skyline Ridge. March 29, 2016, 6:31 pm. Location: Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve is located off Sand Hill Road above Palo Alto, California. It is owned and managed by Stanford University. Its mission is to contribute to the understanding of the Earth's natural systems through research, education, and protection of the Preserve's resources. See <jrbp.stanford.edu>. Photographer: Dan Quinn enjoys capturing and sharing images showing aspects of the natural world at a special moment. A resident of Portola Valley Ranch since 1977, he is a member of Acterra, Sempervirens Fund, POST, and other conservation groups, and is active at Hidden Villa. He is a past president of the Palo Alto Camera Club <www.PACamera.com>.
