Three Types of Oaks with Toyon

Three Types of Oaks with Toyon

In the foreground is a valley oak (Quercus lobata) -- or is this a lone blue oak? -- with a toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia), sporting its fall crop of red berries. There are a couple of bunches of oak mistletoe (Phoradendron serotinum ssp. Tomentosum (P. villosum)) at its crest. On the hill in the distance, to the left, are bare blue oaks (Q. douglasii). These blend into the green coast live oaks (Q. agrifolia var. agrifolia) as one moves to the right.
