Rare Young Valley Oaks (Quercus Lobata)

Rare Young Valley Oaks (Quercus Lobata)

It is rare to see Valley Oaks of this age. Most are cropped by deer before they reach this stature. Were these oaks caged? (Of course, there are mature Valley Oaks, a hundred or more years old, on Jasper Ridge. But very few of a few years old, unless they have been protected from the deer somehow.)
