Taking a "break" from the Ant ID day at Jasper Ridge, I sat beneath a spreading Valley Oak near the Visitors' Parking Lot. Soon I was drawn into another world... Here are images of the world of the Prenolepis or Winter Ant, tending Aphids on a Thistle beneath a Valley Oak. Also, other ants, a Woodrat nest, and more. And yes, the main image for this gallery is a Carpenter Ant, Camponotus, not a Prenolepis, and not on a Thistle... [I include two images from two days earlier, including Mimulus Blossom in the Lab.]
