Nest of Dusky-footed Woodrat (Neotoma fuscipes)
"The grandma rat owns the house, and her daughters live in various parts of it. There are accessory houses nearby with walkways connecting them... Some of these houses are 30 years old." [Beth Skwarecki, BethSkwarecki.com: ] I came to this spot guided by the GPS, to a specific coordinate to count ants. Never again! The Chaparral between here and Trail b was very thick. I got in, but could not find my way back out for a long time and much dusty crawling. (Poison Oak sprouts in the foreground.)
