Leaves and Acorn of Leather Oak (Quercus durata var. durata)

Trail 15, almost in sight of Road F, W of Trail 16. Leather Oak grows mostly in serpentine soils -- soils derived from serpentine rock. Serpentine rock is visible on the trail here. Leather Oak is in the White evolutionary lineage of Oaks -- it hybridizes with the Blue Oak at Jasper Ridge.
