Woodland Trail

Woodland Trail

An empty trail beckons, leading gently downward. Indian warrior (Pedicularis densiflora) blooms beneath its host tree, Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia). Indian Warrior is a root parasite, here using the oaks' roots for nutrients. Its green leaves show that it is also capable of photosynthesis on its own.
