Lipica, Slovenia, is close to Trieste. This is the home of the Lipizzaner Stallions. They have been bred here since 1580. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire and since, the Spanish Riding School in Vienna features performances of these athletic horses.
I drove to Lipica and hung out with the horses. They are very friendly. When I would get close to the ground for a better angle, curious horses would come over to check me out. They appear to have strong opinions about smoking.
