Fungus, Fallen Leaves

Fungus, Fallen Leaves © 2013 Dan Quinn br/ br/Fungus, fallen leaves, and moss. This treetrunk is returning to the soil. Trail 2 near Trail 3, Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. September 22, 2013, 9:27 am. br/ br/Stanford’s Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (JRBP) is a local jewel. Located just above SLAC between Sand Hill – Portola Road in Woodside and Westridge in Portola Valley, it is a 1200-acre nature preserve, set aside for research and teaching. Sitting near the San Andreas Fault, it encompasses a remarkable diversity of plant and animal life. It contains Searsville Dam and Upper, Middle, and Lower Searsville Lakes as well as the serpentine grasslands on Jasper Ridge and many other ecosystems – in fact, the majority of non-coastal ecosystems in California! See lt;jrbp.stanford.edugt;. Contact JRBP for docent-led tours. br/ br/Dan Quinn enjoys capturing and sharing images showing aspects of the natural world at a special moment. A resident of Portola Valley Ranch since 1977, he is a docent at Jasper Ridge, and a long-term supporter of Green Foothills, Hidden Villa, Grassroots Ecology, Acterra, Sempervirens, POST, and other conservation groups. His landscape photography includes images from Jasper Ridge, Hidden Villa, Little Basin, and the environs of Coal Mine Ridge and Windy Hill– as well as other locations worldwide.
