A workshop participant carried a nice Leica camera optimized for black and white -- no color photos allowed. I was blown away by his images, even viewed on the camera. Short of buying one for myself (and carrying it), this inspired me to process some of my images in monochrome.

The majestic twisted Valley Oaks of Jasper Ridge, draped with light-colored Lace Lichen, make ideal subjects for black and white. Here are some other subjects as well. This is a new area for me. What do you think?

I have also placed two monochrome photos in the "Select" gallery; one more is in the "Photographers" gallery with its colored twin.

What do you think?

(It is fun converting color to monochrome in Adobe Lightroom Classic. There are so many sliders to play with: one can adjust each color's tone individually. Do you want to emphasize the yellows, and turn the reds darker? Pull up the greens, suppress the blues? Play away!)
