Here are some photos of the tall redwood in front of the fire station at Portola and Alpine Roads. It is scheduled to be removed to make room for parking and a turn-around space when the fire station is renovated. Is there any way to spare this magnificent old tree?

The fire department [we need them!] wants to expand the fire station. They originally wanted to expand parking behind the station -- but changed their plans to accommodate the neighbors there. And now the plan to cut down this big redwood and build a parking lot and turn-around area out front is getting some pushback from the wider community. You can't please everyone. [By the way, the fire station was there when the neighbors moved in. Firefighters planted many of the redwoods on site.]

There is not a lot of traffic at the fire station, unless there is a fire or other emergency. Shift changes a few times a week. Of course, if there is a fire emergency, there will be traffic -- and we will welcome the firefighters!

Is there any way to make this fire station work for the firefighters, yet spare this large old redwood?

Note the sense of scale provided by two people in several photos. This is a large tree.
