Much of the scene is monochromatic; suppressing the color lets us focus on the pattern. (I can also emphasize some colors over others in this step.) Shutter speeds range from 1/6 second, showing the smooth trails the water follows, to 1/16000 second here, freezing each drop in place. (Actually, even 1/125 second seems to be fast enough here.)
