Serpentine Grasslands in the Spring (2)
A spring show: California Goldfields (Lasthenia californica), Owl's Clover (Castilleja densiflora ssp. densiflora), and even a few closed-up California Poppies (Eschscholzia californica) line Road F. The native flowers prefer the serpentine grassland, especially the borders of the road. Lichen-covered serpentine rocks break through the serpentine soil. Varied shades of green decorate the grasslands and oak woodlands beyond, and the forests up toward Skyline. Near the peak of the springtime show for 2019.
