These yellow bunches do seem to prefer growing in the roadbed; I don't think they actually prefer being stepped on, though. Probably are just more tolerant to disturbance than some of the introduced European grasses along here. The Lone Valley Oak (Quercus lobata) becons on the horizon, just past Trail 15. 9:08 am.
