Though we had hoped for more, we were happy to have an evening and a morning at the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge. A heavy hailstorm, with lightning and thunder, greeted us in the high country. The Dana Fork of the Tuolumne River, bordering the Lodge, was milky with dust and perhaps pollen, washed off the granite by the sudden downpour. Again, I enjoyed playing with the views of the waterfalls of different durations: the silky flow seen at longer exposures, the dancing chaos revealed with an instantaneous blink.

The next morning, the sky was clear, the river was crystal-clear, postcard weather in the high country for our somewhat sad drive home.

We left so quickly because Helen experienced a bout of her altitude high blood pressure. She has been fine in the high country her whole life; see other photo collections here. But extreme altitude changes during a recent visit to Ecuador seem to have triggered a change of state. Now, when her brain senses low oxygen, her blood pressure shoots up. So we come back down.
