"Phainopepla Tree" at Dawn

"Phainopepla Tree" at Dawn

This old valley oak (Querecus lobata) once hosted some phainopeplas, feeding on mistletoe. Phainopeplas are a bird rare to Jasper Ridge, more common further south. Now even the mistletoe seems to be dying. The dawn promises a new day. At the top of a rise on Road F after Trail 15 and Trail 17. 6:37 am.
