Here are several sequences of bird behavior. We start with a red-tailed hawk, sitting in a tree, relaxing. Feel free to skip this sequence. After a kite and a kestrel, a sequence shows a scrub jay sitting in poison oak, then flying away. Worth a visit. And be sure to check out the kiting kite! What a magnificent bird, and what wonderful behavior, as it plants itself in the sky, hovering motionlessly while beating its powerful wings. I saw several instances of this behavior -- it was a good day to hunt voles.

The sequence of the kestrel, hassling a much larger red-tailed hawk, is interesting. Notice that the hawk did stay around...

Finally, I came upon a quail, sitting on a high branch, calling softly to the browsing covey below, watching out for danger. After I crept closer for a better photo, I was surprised to see a different guard-quail, sitting on the same branch. I had missed the changing of the guard.
