This is the "Phainopepla Tree", a valley oak where I saw several rare birds (for this area) years ago. The tree has not had many leaves for years; now the mistletoe also seems to have given up. The browsing deer have wandered over the ridge behind the valley oak on the horizon to the right. Perhaps they prefer to be alone. From the top of the ridge on Road F. iPhone photo.
