Sunlight on Valley Oak (Quercus lobata) with Toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia)

Sunlight on Valley Oak (Quercus lobata) with Toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia)

A wider view, still with the zoom lens. Peaceful. A trail winds up the dry hillside, through the serpentine-laden soil covered in last spring's grasses. The forest shows many different greens: coast live oaks, valley oaks, even leather oaks in the serpentine. The toyon leaves show much more toward the yellow side, though still green. The red toyon berries add some highlights; softer red/brown/green clothes the iconic valley oak. The direct sunlight fades. Peace. 8:18 am.
