Birders at Work

Birders at Work

The serpentine grassland has gone brown; lower grass remains green. We see three species of Jasper Ridge Oaks: A valley oak (Quercus lobata), with green spring leaves, close behind the birders; blue oaks (Q. douglasii) to the left on the hill beyond, also with (bluish) leaves; and coast live oaks (Q. agrifolia) to their right. The latter stay green all year.
