The Committee for Green Foothills takes an annual hike to the bench dedicated to Wallace Stegner, at Long Ridge Open Space Preserve off of Skyline. Wallace Stegner helped found CGF and wrote passionately about wilderness and why to preserve it. This was a lovely hike just after the first real rains of the season -- in February. A highlight was the mating dance of the Coastal Range newt in a newly-active outflow from the Jikoji Pond.
