Cones & Needles of Coast Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii)

Cones & Needles of Coast Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii)

Aka Oregon pine & Douglas spruce, this is not a "true" fir -- not a member of the genus Abies. Known simply as "Oregon" in Australia, where it is grown in extensive tree farms. The coast Douglas fir is the second tallest living conifer in the world, after the coast redwood. Not here, which is far from the center of its range. Interesting hairy-looking cones. Trail 15.
