Five and Forty Blackbirds

Five and Forty Blackbirds

45 Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) in flight. Mostly female -- only two males with red coverts are visible. It is possible that these are not all Red-windged Blackbirds; Sibley says they often form large winter flocks with other blackbirds. Two have been cropped out of this view at the top; I count 43 in this image. From Road F, near the edge of the grasslands and the start of the Blue Oak forest, looking toward Skyline.
