Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis oreganus)

Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis oreganus)

Small rattles are visible. Maybe about two feet long, or a little less?? Just off the western side of Searsville Dam. 4:20 on a hot April afternoon. This is the second rattlesnake we saw on this visit! The first, much larger (perhaps 3 feet long, much fatter and more imposing, with about 4 rattles), was beside Trail 8 just below the chaparral area, going from Trail 7 down to the lake. It slithered off the trail before I captured a photo. It had many more rattles as well. Neither one rattled (at least, my poor hearing heard nothing...)
