Many water birds can be seen in the marsh at the back of the property, including of course herons and egrets. Hawks fly by; I saw a northern harrier in the Audubon preserve nearby. Here are a few of the birds I saw in the yard: a gray catbird (also known as a slate-colored mockingbird), mourning doves, a pair of downy woodpeckers, a sparrow and a robin.
