Winged Female & Male Harvester Ants (Messor andrei) Leave the Nest

Winged Female & Male Harvester Ants (Messor andrei) Leave the Nest

Both male and female Messor ants can have wings -- winged forms are called "alates". Male alates have smaller heads. There is a male alate near the center, facing up; a female above him to the right, also facing up; another female to his left, facing down; and another below the yellow stem. Thanks to Mark Brown, University of London, and Katy Human for help with this matter.
